Rock Nerd ("we," "our," or "us") operates the Rock Nerd mobile app and related website. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our services.

1. Information We Collect

Account and profile. When you register, we collect your email address, username, and password. You may optionally add a profile photo, bio, and preferences (e.g., map radius, newsletter opt-in).

Location. With your permission, we collect device location (latitude/longitude) to show nearby spots on the map, support the Rock Buddy feature, and improve your experience. We may store your last known location and state for features like discovery and identification.

Content you create. We store spots you add (name, coordinates, description, minerals, photos), comments, reviews, check-ins, and messages you send through the app.

Usage and device. We may collect information about how you use the app (e.g., screens visited, actions taken) and device type for support and improving the service. We use push notification tokens to send you alerts (e.g., level-ups, messages) if you enable notifications.

Payment. Premium subscriptions are processed by Apple and Google (and our provider RevenueCat). We do not store your full payment details; we receive and store only subscription status and expiry to manage your premium access.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

• Provide, maintain, and improve the Rock Nerd app and website
• Display spots, comments, reviews, and messages to you and other users as intended by the product
• Send you transactional and optional communications (e.g., password reset, newsletter if you opted in)
• Enforce our Terms of Service and protect the safety of our users
• Comply with applicable law

3. Third-Party Services

We use the following types of third-party services:

• Supabase – Authentication, database, and storage (hosted in the cloud; may process data in the United States or other regions)
• RevenueCat – Subscription and entitlement management for premium features
• Apple / Google – App distribution and in-app purchase processing
• Google Maps – Map display and location features in the app
• Expo – App build and push notification delivery

These providers have their own privacy policies. We do not sell your personal information to third parties for advertising.

4. Data Retention and Security

We retain your account and content for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will remove or anonymize your personal data in line with our retention practices and legal obligations. We use industry-standard measures to protect your data (e.g., encryption, access controls), but no system is completely secure.

5. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data, or to object to or restrict certain processing. You can update your profile and many preferences in the app. To request account deletion or other privacy-related requests, contact us using the details below.

If you are in the European Economic Area or the UK, you may also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

6. Children

Our services are not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us so we can delete it.

7. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy on this page and update the "Last updated" date. Continued use of the app or website after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
